The tornadoes of May 1999 left much destruction in Oklahoma City. In one house ruin someone scrawled across the one remaining wall, "God, we need to talk." What seems at first to be a statement of defiance actually expresses one of our greatest privileges: the permission to come to God through prayer.

It all begins with prayer. The very act of accepting Jesus Christ as one's Lord and Saviour must be prayer since it is direct communication with God. The great epochs of God's people begin with a period of prayer. Jesus even in His three short years of his ministry spent much time in prayer.

It is one of the most common of religious activities springing up in times of war, surrounded by disease, just before the history test, and at bedtime. It can be adorned with eloquence or emitted as a groan.

Since it brings us closer to the God of Grace, the Christian would naturally want to know how to do it better. The following topics (with the accompanying achronym) are often used to discuss the subject.
